intentional boredom

in my tiktok feed i’m inundated with everything about creating a 90s childhood for your kids (in my case stepkids). there’s a big part of this that appeals to me, not just for them, but for my own life as well. as an artist or a creative person of any sort — or let’s be honest, just being a human — i think boredom is a value we should intentionally cultivate. the irony of this thought on intentional boredom coming through my screen during a long tiktok scroll is not lost on me either. what do you gain from making and observing art?

what do you learn through the process of making a painting? i think one reason art is so seductive is that it offers glimpses to what’s going on inside of—both of the viewer and the maker, while also left open to interpretation so that it can be molded to fit within the viewer’s perspective (good/bad, pleasing/not pleasing, about God/about sex, whatever).READ MORE
