Kristine Overacre is a visual artist living and working between San Juan, Puerto Rico and Southern California. Her work explores perception, pattern, and the quiet ways meaning accumulates over time. Through thousands of individual marks, her paintings investigate how disparate parts form a connected whole—how intimacy and expansiveness can coexist within a single surface.

Best known for her contemporary approach to pointillism, Kristine’s practice is rooted in observation, intuition, and a deeply contemplative inner life. Many works are created in a naturally induced, meditative flow state, allowing memory, place, and sensation to guide the process. The natural world remains a constant reference point, offering both palette and metaphor.

At the center of her work is an interest in hidden layers—details and narratives that reveal themselves only with sustained attention. Her paintings are meant to be experienced at multiple distances: what appears as precise, singular marks up close resolves into a unified field from afar. This shifting perspective creates a sense of living vibration, inviting the viewer into a slower, more attentive mode of seeing.

Kristine is drawn to the tension between apparent opposites: light and darkness, order and imperfection, the personal and the infinite. She is interested in the idea that everything can matter, and nothing can matter, at the same time. Each piece is created as an act of devotion—often rooted in a personal narrative or dedicated to someone who shaped its story—carrying intention from conception through completion.

Design Practice

Design operates as a parallel practice informed by the same principles that guide Kristine’s art: restraint, material honesty, and a deep respect for place.

In 2020, she founded KO Studios, an interior design practice focused on organic, modern desert homes. Her path into residential design followed years of work as the co-founder and creative director of Playground Agency (est. 2012), a boutique design firm specializing in award-winning commercial interiors, particularly hotels, restaurants, and hospitality projects across the West Coast.

As her commercial clients began inviting her into their private spaces, Kristine’s work evolved naturally toward residential projects. Today, KO Studios specializes in ground-up construction, full-scale renovations, and bespoke residential design, while continuing to consult on select commercial and development projects, particularly those rooted in community and place. The practice serves clients throughout the United States and the Caribbean.

Writing & Studio Work

In addition to her art and design practices, Kristine maintains an active writing and studio practice devoted to structure, discernment, and the long work of building beautifully. Through essays, reflections, and studio-based work, she explores creative longevity, taste, and sustainable ways of working—offering a framework for creative lives that are both meaningful and enduring.
